Documented Results
60 documented before-and-after cases from 12 clinics — organized by graft count, Norwood stage, technique, and months after surgery, each linked to the clinic’s original photo gallery.
Real results take time: new growth starts around month 3, roughly half the final density shows at month 6, and the finished result arrives at 12–18 months. Judge any before-and-after by its graft count and how many months post-op the photo was taken.
Filter the cases to match your situation. Every card states the clinic’s own published numbers and links to the original photos.

Patient RBJ had a Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) to restore his frontal hairline and add volume to the front part of his scalp. He decided to have an FUT (rather than FUE) procedure to get as much volume in one session as possible. He does not plan on keep his hair very short on the back and sides, so the fine linear scar from FUT will not be an issue. Results after one session of 2,009 follicular unit grafts.
Des Kenilworth - Type 4 Hair Loss, FUE, 2046 grafts
This patient previously had two hair transplants elsewhere - one FUT and one FUE. He was unhappy with the pluggy look and the unnatural hairline design. We performed a 2100 FUE hair transplant (single session) to the hairline to make it look more natural. He is shown 1 year after his procedure with us.

2805 FUE hair transplant (single session) to crown. Contrary to what some say online, crown hair restoration definitely works. But when you start with a large completely bare area, it can consume a lot of grafts to create density. Here you see a great example of that, we made excellent progress and he might be returning for another procedure to further bolster density. Notice how nicely the profile contour now looks.

500-1,500 grafts for hairline refinement
Subtle improvement in hairline definition; natural appearance
1,500-2,500 grafts
Dramatic improvement in hairline; restored youthful appearance
2,500-4,000 grafts per session
Dramatic transformation; restored hairline and crown density
3,500-5,000+ grafts per session
Dramatic improvement but may require multiple sessions for optimal results
5,000-7,000+ grafts per session
Significant improvement but may require 2-3 sessions; realistic expectations essential
6,000-10,000+ grafts per session
Modest improvement with multiple sessions; hair systems often more practical and cost-effective
Weeks 1–2
Redness, small scabs, and mild swelling around the grafts. Most patients are back at work within 5–7 days. Transplanted hairs are visible but fragile.
Weeks 2–4
Most transplanted hairs shed. This is expected and completely normal — the follicles stay in place beneath the skin and enter a resting phase before regrowth.
Months 3–4
Fine, soft new hairs start to appear. Coverage still looks thin, and growth can be uneven from one area to another at this stage.
Month 6
Roughly half of the final result is typically visible. Hair thickens and darkens; the new hairline takes shape. Most of the 6-month photos in the gallery reflect this stage.
Months 12–18
Full density, texture, and maturity. This is why most documented cases photograph results at 12 months or later — anything earlier undersells the outcome.
Final results take 12–18 months. New growth starts at months 3–4, about half the final density is visible by month 6, and hair continues to thicken and mature through month 12 and beyond. Photos taken earlier than 12 months usually undersell the final outcome.
Every case on this page is a documented result published by the treating clinic in its own public gallery, and each card links to the original source. We record the graft count, technique, Norwood stage, and months post-op exactly as the clinic reported them. We do not host, edit, or alter patient photos.
It depends on your Norwood stage. Hairline refinement (Norwood 2) typically takes 500–1,500 grafts, Norwood 3 needs 1,500–2,500, and Norwood 4 needs 2,500–4,000. The gallery cases at each graft band show what those numbers actually look like on real patients.
Five factors drive most of the variation: hair caliber (thicker hair covers more), contrast between hair and skin tone, donor density, the surgeon’s hairline design and graft placement, and whether the patient stabilizes native loss with medication. Two patients with identical graft counts can get visibly different results.
Warning signs include patchy or low-density growth after 12 months, an unnaturally straight or low hairline, visible plugs or scarring, and ongoing thinning behind the transplanted zone. With qualified surgeons, 95-98% of grafts typically survive — most poor outcomes trace back to inexperienced clinics or unstabilized hair loss.
Compare by surgeon first, technique second. FUE, DHI, and FUT can all produce excellent, natural results in experienced hands — the gallery includes strong cases of each. Technique mostly affects scarring, shave requirements, and cost rather than the quality of the final look.
